Big Trip Day 116 – Matala Party Night

The entries in my travelogue (how effortlessly over the past few weeks of posting have I elevated my tatty, intermittently written in, often illegible notebook to such a noble status!) for today (5th August 1973) refer to the activities of last night.

Early in the evening there was smoking and…

…slight hassle when police came round letting down tents; luckily we weren’t inside.

I smoked some Lebanese cannabis in a chillum and a joint, before our party with the marines started around 21.00 hrs. There was much rushing around to collect wood and bamboo for the fire. We shared hamburgers, tinned chicken, fruit cocktail, peanut butter, bread, tinned ham and eggs, all to a background of music that included The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Santana. Soul Sacrifice was amazing, possibly enhanced by what I had smoked and then drank on top of that – swigs from bottles of red and white wine being passed around, and some of Mama’s homemade retsina (a bit rough – and strangely sold by the kilo!).

I gave up around 03.30 hrs and bedded down until 11.00 hrs this morning.

There will be a brief entry tomorrow for Day 117.
