Big Trip Day 104 – Almost leaving Karpathos

It was a late morning rise at camp Jim & Derek today. We walked into town and bought 0.25 kg of monkey nuts each. In the late afternoon, we scurried back to camp with our treasure.

Not being the best of campers, we struggled a bit with the fire – not helped by spilling water on it. We berated ourselves for not buying any salt, but then realised that the seawater would take care of that. The monkey nuts were boiled for 2 hours, including time lost because of the aforementioned fire issues. I did not record in my increasingly fallible travelogue if the nuts were enjoyable. I guess it is all about the journey. Future life may provide an opportunity to recount this tale.

We returned to town in the late evening and had a meal. Presumably the nuts were not sufficient. Somehow, I was sitting around talking to an oldish English guy down by the harbour until around 04.00 hrs – we are now into Day 105. Jim was taking a nap on the kerb.

It could be said that we were waiting for our boat to come in. The Kanaris was due to arrive at 03.00 hrs but did not appear until 04.50 hrs.

To be continued…tomorrow.
