Why Did the Buffalo Cross the Road?

It can be quite challenging to drive along our village roads. In some areas they resemble the surface of the moon. Meanwhile, the main road connecting to the village of Zdravets and the Varna to Burgas highway benefits from random patches of resurfacing undertaken by a fleet of diggers, trucks and assorted heavy equipment operated by a small army of workers under the watchful eyes of their colleagues as they rest in the shade or wave their little red and green paddles to control the traffic.

“Another challenge is the amount of animal traffic that often cuts across your path. I have encountered chickens, geese, cats, dogs (I mentioned in my last post the fierce dogs of the rogue shepherd), a donkey (yes, my neighbour’s controversial purchase as noted in my previous post – and after he laid down in front of my car and squirmed about a bit, I had to lead him to the side of the road, being careful to avoid getting a nasty kick. Yeah, and the donkey wasn’t much better!), goats and cattle. I am not sure about buffaloes, but groups on social media do provide a good insight into local life. This recent offering (automatically translated from Bulgarian) provided the hook for my current post…

“If someone is looking for the black buffaloes (I think they were buffaloes), they crossed the toll in the direction of Zdravets, after the stop for Beloslav on the ferry down. Be careful, they surprised us unpleasantly”.

I imagine it is not very nice being unpleasantly surprised by buffaloes. If anyone wants to get interactive, I welcome answers to the question posed in the title!
