Big Trip Day 90 – Athens Again

I arrived by boat from Heraklion in the early hours of this morning, having departed Matala on the early afternoon bus yesterday.

This is really the beginning of the end. I bought my coach ticket home today. As I recall, this was probably with a lot of mixed feelings. There were many times on the journey when I felt homesick and alone, despite the many wonderful people I met and the great places I visited. Maybe these thoughts are best for sharing at the end. There is still a bit of a way to go, hopefully with nice things to write about on here.

The date of departure for London will be 15th August 1973. I will be riding the Magic Bus at a cost of £19.50. The direct Athens to London route is no longer run by the Magic Bus company, and current prices for the service now operated by FlixBus start at £152.99. That is almost 4 return journeys in olden times! Mind you, the fare I paid was about a week’s wages in the job I had before I left Croydon in April. I was a trainee manager for a company that checked the credit-worthiness of businesses. I had my moments there, but it was never going to be me.

Where will I go and what will happen between now and my departure? Intermittent posts over the next few weeks should fill in the gaps.
