I noted in my post for Day 60 that I was not sure of the name of the cafe where we used to spend an inordinate amount of time. I thought it was Mama’s Cafe but my internet searches could only find Mama’s Bakery. I knew it was the postal address I used and, lo and behold, I came across this sent to me by my parents! Note also the cost of an international air mail postage stamp back then!

Most of the time it was just us “locals” that used to be there, but I always remember when a coach party was due to arrive. There would be much hustling and bustling as the staff quickly whipped away the standard menu cards and replaced them with the “special” tourist menus – same food but at inflated prices!
My travelogue entry for this day in the cheap postage days of 1973…
And last night there were baked potatoes in a roaring fire with bread and cheese and Jenny and Hilary and Jim! And there were many moon-shadows; even white fluffy clouds were visible as I sat by the sea alone. And this morning, everyone was collecting and burning rubbish, fires and smoke everywhere, but the place looks much tidier.
At school I was always taught not to begin a sentence with “and”. But I’m not at school anymore! (Oh, I think the general rule was not to begin a sentence with any kind of conjunction, but hey ho, I gotten me “A” level English, so there! [True]).
I also noted that Hilary sustained bad sunburn on her legs and smeared them with yogurt. That may have eased the pain, but it also attracted a lot of insects as we sat in the firelight.
