Big Trip Day 54 – Andretsaina to Mykine

This has been quite an eventful day. It began with my final breakfast with Liz and we said farewell on the street…

Such is life; we drift towards each other and we drift away on the great tide of time, caught occasionally, and spun.

I was feeling great as I walked along the mountain road, admiring the sight and scent of the flowers. I picked one and pressed it in The Odyssey (which Liz gave me in exchange for Murphy).

Only one car passed in the first two hours – it was the Beetle with the two German guys. I waved because I was engaged in some photographic activity at the time. I continued walking, lost in thoughts about the…

advantages of leading a 40-year life full of experience, rather than a boring, long-drawn 70-year stint!

Oh dear, those teenage thoughts come back to taunt us. I have passed the milestone, my long-drawn out life, quite a stint, but not a life I would call boring!

Anyway, at this point, maybe as a message of rebuke from the gods, I slipped on some gravel and tumbled down a concrete embankment. I sustained minor cuts on my knees, tore my trousers, grazed my forehead and nose, and had a small nosebleed. I felt quite shaken. I was just putting away my medical kit when a truck stopped and gave me a lift to a cafe a few miles further on.

A guy at the cafe let me share his taxi to Megalopolis for free. After a short walk out of the town, I had quite a wait until a middle-aged couple from the Netherlands gave me a lift in their sporty car to Tripoli. This put me on the right road to Argos

A bit more walking, more lemonade in a cafe, and then quickly picked up a lift in a truck to Fiktia. Strangely, after a nice mountain ride, I left the truck with a tasty bunch of cherries. From tbere, it was just a short walk to the youth hostel in Mykine.

No clues about tomorrow – I will be staying in Mykine.
