Big Trip Day 53 – Olympia to Andretsaina

The day began with Liz and I hitching a ride to Pirgos in an open truck. We caught a bus from there to Krestena. We got two quick lifts in vans carrying milk churns between villages. I lost my sunglasses on the first ride due to the wind, but it was fun.

We then picked up a lift in a bus carrying a wedding party to Andretsaina. This was followed by another free bus ride through mountain scenery to the Temple of Apollo at Vasse. This was well worth visiting, with blue sky, the tinkling of goat bells, and a slowly setting sun.

Unfortunately, there was no bus back into town until the next day. Thankfully, Liz used her charm to secure us a lift with two lovely German guys in their VW Beetle.

After tea/coffee and my new found delight (natural yogurt with honey), Liz and I found a hotel room. She wanted to wash her hair so I heated water for her with my solid fuel cooker on a table in the bedroom. Ever the gentleman.

Tomorrow finds me in a village close to the archeological site that was a powerful influence on Greek civilisation from around 1600 BC. It is on the Peloponnese and about 9km north of the famous catalogue store.
