My first entry in the travelogue for today was made at 12.15 hrs while the ferry was anchored off Kas. I discovered that the ferry departed Antalya around 01.00 hrs this morning and had a long stop at Finike. I apparently slept well despite (or maybe because of ) being at sea. The scenery was wonderful, all blue sea, small islands, golden sands and mountainous coastline.
We arrived in Fethiye at 18.45 hrs and soon found a hotel that was clean. I teamed up with a bloke from Beirut who was a chemistry teacher.
My memory of the events of the past two days seems to have dissolved over the years. Washed away by the tide, maybe now residing in an underwater cave and entertaining fishes. My note-keeping had either dropped off a bit at this point or nothing noteworthy occurred. Sometimes a word or phrase can elicit a kaleidoscope of memories, perhaps more powerfully than even a photograph. You can almost feel the breeze or taste the cucumber (or small marrow!) dipped in salt. At other times, recording mundane details just elicits a mundane memory, with a muted emotional soundtrack.
Tomorrow finds me exploring Fethiye. My notes remain sparse so I may have to do a bit of philosophising to try to make the post more interesting. Please join me.
