Big Trip Day 6 – Freiburg

I spent a lovely day exploring Freiburg with Becky. We visited the 13th century minster (The Cathedral of Our Lady) where…

There were many religious sculptures and paintings in the museum and we saw the Historical Merchants’ Hall dating from from 1520 – red and gold with lots of little turrets. Maybe my cultural knowledge needs to be a bit more fulsome before I can become a proper travel writer.

As we wandered through the narrow streets of the old town, the smell of fried sausages (bratwurst) wafted in the air. [Later in life, this experience was re-lived in Birmingham’s German Christmas market].

The evening was spent in a local bar. [This experience has been re-lived many times since then]. I was the only English guy in a group of about 20, which included Australians, Americans, French, and one Scottish lad. I struck up a conversation with Bernadette from Sydney. She was a teacher who worked in child welfare. We discovered that we were planning to head in the same direction, so agreed to travel together tomorrow.

Where will we end up?

Clues: A “conventional” city on the south-western shores of a large lake, from which the Rhone flows.
